Realising that the ceramic industry needs to keep attracting new
generations, Portmeirion are very happy to be working alongside in the
Ceramic Industry Forum, as part of its "Ceramic Futures - Staffordshire
Schools Project". Portmeirion Product Management Director, Julian Teed, has
visited a local school, The Friary, helping them with the design project.
The school children, aged between 13 and 14 Key Stage 3, have since attended
Portmeirion's factory and development studio in Stoke on Trent where they
even had a taste of fame! Appearing on the BBC, the Sentinel newspaper and
local radio station Signal, they explained why they were interested in a
career in ceramics. A new Susan Williams-Ellis and Ella Doran possibly?
Portmeirion hope so, as Julian Teed says "we are delighted to be involved
with this project. We think it is extremely positive that the CIF are
helping to create such excitement about our industry to Staffordshire's
younger generations." The outcome of all the student's efforts can be seen
at the Ceramic Futures Schools Exhibition to be held at Staffordshire
University in June.
